 I took a section of a photograph  I took and created a painting that reminded me of a habitat for some tiny creature on the forest floor. If you notice the small dark opening on the upper left third of the painting, surely something resides there.

 I like the way this painting is organic abstraction in that the subject is unrecognizable from what the original photograph is that of some decaying cabbage leaves. I experimented with creating luminosity through the use of the white of the paper in this mixed media abstract. Thanks for viewing my blog. Cabbage I

This is another painting done for my thesis work concentrating on the under appreciated beauty of the cabbage. This painting is mixed media, watercolor and oil. The great JMW Turner experimented with this combination extensively in his desire to create luminosity in his paintings. The idea of bringing a subject for a still life of something that is normally looked down upon but now presented at eye level challenges the viewer to see things as they have not been seen before. Cherry Tomatoes

Fresh from the garden....my favorite, cherry tomatoes! These little gems are the most sensational flavor associated with the summer harvest. Add a little feta cheese and evoo (extra virgin olive oil) and there you have the piece de resistance! Not to worry you will be seeing more paintings of these little gems. Reds often present a challenge in painting, I am pleased with the results but intend to challenge myself a further.

Purple Cabbage

Cabbages were the inspiration for my master's thesis in which I compared the lowly insignificant cabbage as metaphor for the little guy, or things overlooked and unappreciated. The purple cabbage especially has so many wonderful colors and such graceful undulating lines that it inspired a series of paintings. It took me a while to nail down the correct colors and iridescent qualities but I was ultimately pleased with my interpretation. Thank-you for viewing my blog. Banana Peppers

Banana Peppers is the next painting in my continuing series focusing on the beautiful summer vegetables and all their incredible nuances in color and reflection. I arranged the peppers in several different compositions then finally settled on the vortex arrangement. This is the compositional arrangement the great JMW Turner  spent years experimenting with. The idea is to pull the eye into the painting which continues to move around in a circular motion.
