I wanted to express the passion one feels when experiencing the intense colors of the tropics. The undulating petals of the red hibiscus create a very sensuous rhythm of values inviting the viewer to imagine themselves somewhere tropical with a warm breeze and the taste of the sea coming to mind. Large fields of red are always such a pleasure to render. In this painting the red pastels are almost like paintings with fire they are so intense and expressive, one of my favorite mediums. This painting of a night blooming cereus cactus began my interest in what I consider somewhat mysterious night blooming plants. I must have changed the coloring in this painting ten times trying to achieve the qualities I thought it should have to depict the night surrounding the magical night blooms. I intend to do quite a few more white blooms at night they are so dramatic! Thanks for viewing my blog.

This is another in my series of orchids also taken at Myriad Botanical Gardens in Oklahoma City. These tiny rare beauties fascinate me because you must really stop and look to notice their miniature jewel like qualities. White Orchid

This little painting was inspired by a collection of orchid photos taken on a trip to Myriad Botanical Gardens, Oklahoma City. Orchids are like tiny jewels with their incredible intricate detail. Passion

The passion flower grows wild in many areas of Texas, there are many different varieties. I had planned on painting this flower for many years knowing it would be a challenge. A photograph taken in a friend's yard provided the inspiration to finally make that painting. The passion flower has many biblical connotations easily searched online. I have always thought it was one of the most beautiful and memorable flowers I have ever seen. I wouldn't mind doing a series of these they are so incredible.
