Passion

The passion flower grows wild in many areas of Texas, there are many different varieties. I had planned on painting this flower for many years knowing it would be a challenge. A photograph taken in a friend's yard provided the inspiration to finally make that painting. The passion flower has many biblical connotations easily searched online. I have always thought it was one of the most beautiful and memorable flowers I have ever seen. I wouldn't mind doing a series of these they are so incredible.

Vanishing Clouds

This little painting is a study for a larger version I intend to do. The clouds I photographed on this particular day were like none I had ever seen before. They appeared like oversized marshmallow all golden and lined up in a row. They perfectly demonstrated perspective that is always there in clouds but more difficult to realize than say, a row of buildings. Thanks for viewing my blog.

Landscape In Green

This abstract landscape was inspired by the work of modernist master Paul Klee. His whimsical geometric shapes and play with color inspired many artist in the expressive modernist movement of the twenties. He was an incredibly prolific painter creating more than 12,000 works in his lifetime. The Paul Klee Museum in Bern, Switzerland houses many of these works and is an architectural marvel in itself- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PK9-mvGxNeY . This work actually won a best of show and jurors choice in the student art exhibit at Texas A&M Commerce in 2011, it is part of the permanent collection of the university. I was kinda proud of that! Cabbage I

This is another painting done for my thesis work concentrating on the under appreciated beauty of the cabbage. This painting is mixed media, watercolor and oil. The great JMW Turner experimented with this combination extensively in his desire to create luminosity in his paintings. The idea of bringing a subject for a still life of something that is normally looked down upon but now presented at eye level challenges the viewer to see things as they have not been seen before. Cherry Tomatoes

Fresh from the garden....my favorite, cherry tomatoes! These little gems are the most sensational flavor associated with the summer harvest. Add a little feta cheese and evoo (extra virgin olive oil) and there you have the piece de resistance! Not to worry you will be seeing more paintings of these little gems. Reds often present a challenge in painting, I am pleased with the results but intend to challenge myself a further.

Purple Cabbage

Cabbages were the inspiration for my master's thesis in which I compared the lowly insignificant cabbage as metaphor for the little guy, or things overlooked and unappreciated. The purple cabbage especially has so many wonderful colors and such graceful undulating lines that it inspired a series of paintings. It took me a while to nail down the correct colors and iridescent qualities but I was ultimately pleased with my interpretation. Thank-you for viewing my blog. The Katrina Dogs; Bernie and Beau's Hurricane Adventure

This painting is the cover for the children's book I am writing and illustrating.  The Katrina Dogs; Bernie and Beau's Hurricane Adventure is the title. As you may have guessed it is a story about two dogs and their plight after Hurricane Katrina and finding new homes. I am very excited to start illustrating the pages now that I have finished the cover. The painting of the cover was epic, it took many, many hours to complete. I will be posting the interior pages intermittently as I have a few to share. Stay tuned I am hoping to have the book complete in a month or so. A percentage of the proceeds will be donated to animal adoption. Thanks for viewing my blog.

Banana Peppers

Banana Peppers is the next painting in my continuing series focusing on the beautiful summer vegetables and all their incredible nuances in color and reflection. I arranged the peppers in several different compositions then finally settled on the vortex arrangement. This is the compositional arrangement the great JMW Turner  spent years experimenting with. The idea is to pull the eye into the painting which continues to move around in a circular motion.

Portrait of a Pear

This is the first in my series portraying the wonderful fruits and veggies that are so bountiful this month. In this painting I chose to present the pear in a centered composition much like a portrait. I like to think the pear takes on a personality all of its own. Thanks for viewing my blog. For purchasing information please contact the artist.

Sunset 1

This paintings is the third a series of small works landscape paintings inspired by the lake where we live. The beauty of the water and reflections at sunset never cease to amaze me. Each day the effects and colors vary, never the same. I always want to share this beauty with my fellow lovers of art. The fun of being an artist is that "intangible" feeling that the painting can always be better. Hence, another day another attempt at capturing the beauty that i see and sharing it the others.
