Oak

This mixed media painting is one of the first in a new series that I am beginning. These mixed media paintings often begin with scrapes of paper or pictures that represent different experiences or memories in everyday life. The paintings are built up with layers of paint and texture which represent the layers and planes of existence which we all experience in our everyday life. I am excited to embark on this new series and share more of my thoughts about this series and the ideas behind the concepts. This painting is sold but there will be many more in this series. Waterlily

I found the photograph I took of the pink waterlily especially intriguing because the reflective shadows were so enticing. So actually this painting is focusing more on reflections and then the waterlily.  The decaying leaf position is designed to pull the eye of the viewer into the painting, then follows around to the pink lily and finally the reflection. Tricks in composition . . . it's all about controlling the eye!

Vanishing Clouds

This little painting is a study for a larger version I intend to do. The clouds I photographed on this particular day were like none I had ever seen before. They appeared like oversized marshmallow all golden and lined up in a row. They perfectly demonstrated perspective that is always there in clouds but more difficult to realize than say, a row of buildings. Thanks for viewing my blog.
